The Alberta Geomatics Group (AGG) is a non-profit organization created to facilitate the growth, awareness and development of the Alberta Geomatics Community. The activities of the AGG are guided by the Board of Directors, a group of individuals elected to the Board by the members of the AGG. The roles and responsibilities of the Board members are outlined in the AGG’s bylaws.
How do I become a Board Member?
The general process is if someone is interested they must be nominated, accept the nomination and then be voted in at the AGM.
As a member of the Board you are expected to attend monthly meetings. Board members comment and vote on AGG initiatives and without quorum the AGG Board cannot function.
Anticipate being asked to take on some extra responsibility; such as treasurer, sponsorship, communications, etc. On the AGG Board, many hands make light work and the commitment is not onerous. The AGG will work to match your interests with its needs. Most employers are supportive of the AGG and employees who sit on the Board.
You are not alone in this! In addition to working with a supportive Board the AGG pays a very capable management team to work behind the scenes. They look after details such as accounting, web site maintenance, recording minutes, assisting with the organization of events, etc. This permits you to focus on your responsibilities.
